Here at 31-W Insulation, we want to help you keep your home as comfortable as possible, and one of the main ways we do that is by helping you keep your insulation in good condition. Insulation is a protective layer in between your interior and exterior walls (as well as in other places, such as under your eaves) that prevents excess heat energy from getting into or out of your home, thus keeping the internal temperature more consistent and comfortable.
While home insulation is designed to last for a long time, it will eventually need to be replaced. In this article, our team will go over a few signs that it’s time for you to get insulation replacement for your home.
- High Energy Bills- One way to determine whether you need insulation replacement is to look at your most recent energy bill and compare it to the one from the same month last year. If your heating or cooling costs are noticeably higher, the cause may be that your insulation is nearing the end of its life, as less-effective insulation forces the HVAC system to spend more energy maintaining your desired temperature.
- Drafts- Another sign that you need an insulation replacement is drafts, or air leaks, in your home. You may be able to feel breezes or currents of air if you stand directly in the path of the air leak, but you may also identify a draft based only on indirect evidence, such as a particular room always being hotter or colder than the rest of the house.
- Age- A third sign that it’s time for insulation replacement is simply the age of your current insulation. If the insulation in your home now is older than 20 years, then it simply can’t keep up with modern insulation, and you’re better off replacing it.
