Here at 31-W Insulation, we want to help you keep your home as safe and secure as possible, and one of the simplest and most effective ways to do that is to make sure your door locks are doing their job effectively. While door locks are designed to last for a long time, there are some situations in which it’s best to get them changed, even if the mechanisms are still technically working. In this article, we’ll go over a few reasons why or situations in which you should get your locks changed.

Reasons to Change Your Door Locks

  • When Moving Into a New Home- If you are moving into a new home, one thing you should do as soon as possible is get the door locks changed. You don’t know how many keys to the current locks there are or who might have access to a copy. To make sure you have full control over who can get into your home and who can’t, you should get the locks replaced with new ones.
  • After Losing Your Keys- Another situation in which you should get your door locks changed is after you or someone else in your household has lost their exterior key. Once that key gets lost, you don’t know where it will end up, and it could potentially fall into the wrong hands. To protect yourself and your home, we recommend getting your locks replaced to render that missing key useless to potential intruders.
  • When Someone Moves Out- A third situation in which to change your door locks is after someone moves out of your household, especially if your parting was not friendly. If you want to keep a former member of your household from getting back in, change the locks behind them.
