Garage doors open and close approximately 1,500 times per year. It shouldn’t come as a surprise, then, that your garage door may need repairs from time to time, but that doesn’t mean you’ll always recognize it right away. There are several signs you can watch out for that indicate when you need garage door repair.

Five Signs You Need Garage Door Repair

  • Slow Operation – If your garage door opens and closes much slower than usual, there could be a warped track or broken spring that needs repair. If those aren’t the issues, then the solution could be as simple as cleaning and lubricating your garage door’s parts.
  • Excessive Noise – Garage doors don’t necessarily operate quietly, but you’ll probably notice if things sound different. If they make excessive noise, especially squeaking or grinding sounds, there are probably worn parts, such as bearings, rollers, or springs, that need replacement.
  • Unresponsive Opener – The automatic opener may stop working for a number of reasons. Sometimes, a dead battery or power outage may be to blame. Other times, the issue is worn-out garage door parts that need to be repaired or replaced entirely.
  • Operates By Itself – A garage door that seems to have a mind of its own indicates a need for repair. There is probably a wiring issue that needs troubleshooting, and if it isn’t that, then it could be old batteries in the remote.
  • Opens and Reverses – Garage doors have sensors built in to detect people or objects in their path so the doors can auto reverse and prevent injury. If your garage door opens and reverses even though there are no obstructions present, the sensors may be misaligned.
